Our History
Shore Hall is not just a luxury manor house, but a living piece of history where the legacy of Norman knights, Tudor courtiers, and Enlightenment scholars can all be sensed within its walls and lands.
Shore Hall’s history, as we know it, spans roughly seven centuries, from its medieval inception under Norman-Breton lords through Tudor-Stuart redevelopment, into the Georgian and Victorian era.
Originally known as Wood Hall or Woodhall, many notable families have been linked to the estate, including the de Veres, Mordaunts, Harveys, and Count Alan of Brittany, also known as Alan Fergant, prominent Breton ally of the Normas and son-in-law to William the Conqueror.
